Two practices you shouldn't be sleeping on, tongue scraping and oil pulling! The way we begin our morning matters, both to the mind and the body. We have an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves through small, intentional practices. Through consistency the smallest habits can become the strongest roots.
Tongue Scraping
Tongue scraping is a long existing Ayurvedic practice that you shouldn’t be skipping out on. Benefits include; removal of excess toxins and bacteria from the tongue, aids in preventing bad breath, enhances sense of taste, promotes oral and digestive health, and stimulates internal organs. This practice, when done consistently, optimizes the body's balance and well-being.
Use a stainless steel tongue scraper or other tongue scraping device. Stick the tongue out and in a relaxed position. Place the scraper on the tongue as far back as comfortable and gently bring the scraper forward. Rinse off the scraper and repeat as necessary.

Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is another important Ayurvedic self-care and oral hygeine practice. This one can take a bit getting used to but the benefits to your well-being are worth it. Oil pulling involves swishing in the oral cavity as you would mouth wash. It is known to prevent and support treatment of oral and systemic disease. Common oils used include sesame, sunflower, coconut, and olive oil.
In the morning, before brushing or consuming any food or drink, use approx. 1 tbsp of oil and swish between the teeth up to 20 minutes if you are able to. Do not swallow the oil as it may have bacteria and toxins that you do not want to reabsorb into the body. Once complete, scrape, rinse, brush, and floss the teeth.
